Hi Colleagues
It seems I had missed some of the discussion on the additional Yeti servers. As we all know Internet is a very distributed architecture with no boundaries. In my opinion the distribution of servers should be reflected in
(a) Geographical distribution of servers including DM
(b) Reflective of the density of the Internet users so an area or geography having large density can have more root servers to serve
(c) Peer and X-chage point considerations so the servers are easily reachable to the users.
These are some of my thoughts on the deployment of the Yeti servers which will definitely help in reducing some of the bottlenecks that the future Internet may pose.
I also propose to add two more Yeti root servers and two recursive servers separated by 2000 Km from each other in India if agreed by others.
Also I would like members to share their views on how they have or propose to increase the traffic on the Yeti system so as to make it tested and robust.
What about IDN. Is anyone doing tests on IDN in Yeti?
Praveen

主题: [Yeti DNS Discuss] We need your opinion Re: New servers added to Yeti testbed
Hi colleagues,
This is a follow-up mail about new servers added to Yeti testbed, Which need your attention and participation.
After previous mail , BII and another existing operator applied to run additional servers. BII now got approval and ready to add three servers this weekend (one in Guangzhou via China Mobile , Two in Shanghai and Chengdu via CERNET2). After this adding, BII also consider to donate additional 5 VPSs outside of China in next step. Note that according to current policy of Yeti DNS project, these additional servers is allowed and to be reclaimed in high priority if new operator apply it. One example of additional server is dahu2.yeti.eu.org.
However, it may happen that BII as a yeti server operator and one of coordinators who runs nearly 10 servers. Given that Yeti now is put under a big spotlight (WEF and IGP articles), it may introduce political and optical controversy from public,. To make everything public and transparent, the coordinators decide some kind of poll is required on this mailing list and drive it carefully by the community consensus.
As one proposal, a careful adoption of these servers (or future servers) is to put them under the name of [a-e].yeti-dns.org which is operator jointly by Yeti coordinator. More specifically, TISF will manage the domain (yeti-dns.org). BII will operator the VPS, WIDE will severed as a supervisor. And the national flag of this server presented in the website will be the country where the server located.
We need your feedback and comment as one part of Yeti DNS project.
Best regards,
Davey (on behalf of Yeti coordinators)

主题: [Yeti DNS Discuss] New servers added to Yeti testbed
Hi folks,
As I introduce in virtual meeting, BII is going to introduce servers (VPS) into Yeti testbed to achieve the requirement for “more root server ” experiment in which the number is 25 ideally. If anyone (including existing Yeti server operator) would like to donate more servers, please let the Yeti coordinators know. Note that the adding/removing policy for the additional Yeti servers is under the document:
https://github.com/BII-Lab/Yeti-Project/blob/master/doc/OnBoarding.md#considerations-in-running-multiple-yeti-root-servers-by-one-operator
Best regards,
Davey
