All,
Dmitry Kovalenko pointed out that there seem to be some inconsistencies
in the Yeti root servers. I did some digging. This is the first
inconsistency I discovered.
We have some inconsistencies with forward & reverse mapping:
ERROR: error with reverse lookup for bii.dns-lab.net. address 240c:f:1:22::6
ERROR: error with reverse lookup for yeti-ns.wide.ad.jp. address 2001:200:1d9::35
WARNING: IPv6 address for ns-yeti.bondis.org. maps to smtp1.bondis.org.
ERROR: error with reverse lookup for yeti.bofh.priv.at. address 2a01:4f8:161:6106:1::10
Do we care about this?
Personally I don't think reverse DNS is super important, but I know
that some people find it useful. I think we have a few possible ways
forward:
1. Do nothing
2. Request that every Yeti root have a working reverse name
3. Request that every Yeti root have a matching forward & reverse name
4. Request that every Yeti root return NXDOMAIN for reverse
If we decide for anything but "do nothing", we probably need to put
some system-wide monitoring in place.
Cheers,

Shane
